Deputy Principal’s Message

Dear parents/ Guardians,

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the students and their families this year. We trust that your child’s education at Sirius College would be a memorable and successful one.

Another year for most of us means another chapter to live and discover. Therefore, we sincerely hope that 2021 brings prosperity, success, inspiration and a means of recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic that students and guardians experienced last year.

Moving forward, there are some important reminders we would like to make to our Sirius college community. Even though these reminders were made at the beginning of the term, it is of utmost paramount to make these reminders once again. I kindly encourage all parents and guardians to take their time to read and understand our expectations here at Sirius College.

School Uniform

SIRIUS College is a uniformed school and students are expected to adhere to the Uniform Policy. SIRIUS College regards grooming and uniform as basic matters of self-respect and respect for the school community. Students are expected to wear the appropriate school uniform at all times, including excursions with pride. If a student has a good reason for not wearing the uniform on any given day, she/he must bring a note from home and obtain a Uniform Pass from the Classroom Teacher. Students are permitted to come to school in Sports Uniform on days when they have Sport classes allocated.

The management team undergoes periodic uniform checks to ensure that each and every student is in the correct uniform. According to our observations and findings, some of our male students are either wearing the incorrect shoes or pants and female students are putting on jewellery, i.e rings, bracelets and or necklaces.

Please refer to the student handbook to see permitted uniforms and accessories for students. I’m dropping a link below of the student handbook.

Attendance / Lateness

Students are expected to be at school for roll call no later than 8.45am. Students arriving after 9:10 am are required to report to the office to obtain an e-Late Pass. Where a valid reason exists for a student not being able to attend school at the required time, the parent must inform the teacher with a notice or a telephone call. The school is responsible for the well-being of all the students and hence will have to report any issues that are related to neglect, to the Department of Child Services such as consistent absences, coming to school late or being picked up from school late on a regular basis. Therefore, families are advised of the following careful details:

  1. If the student is absent from school for a prolonged period of time, because of sickness or some unforeseen circumstance parents must contact the class teacher.
  2. If an absence is known in advance for an approved appointment (medical, dental, etc.), a note must be brought to the classroom teacher before the event, requesting permission to be absent. This should be arranged outside school time unless in an emergency.
  3. Students are expected to be at school before 8.45am. If, for a good reason, a student arrives late he/she must report to the general office. If a student is expected to be late, then a parent must notify the school prior to 8.45am.
  4. On return to school after an absence, a note explaining the absence(s) is to be provided to the teacher. Notes are to be written and signed by a parent, not by the student. If the absence will be for more than two days, parents will phone the school providing the student/s name and roll class and the reason for the absence.

We anticipate and have full faith that the expectations as stated above will be actioned and followed within our community.

Once again, to make a school a better place we invite parents to also be stakeholders in educating our kids here at Sirius college.

Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children.

Thank you,

Mr Cihan Koc
Deputy Principal
